Can’t See Home
Most people do not live where they can see the Milky Way. These people cannot see the Milky Way, our home galaxy, and hundreds and thousands of stars because of light pollution.
Light Pollution
Light pollution results from excessive and poorly designed and improperly used outdoor lighting. The energy that is wasted in lighting up the undersides of airplanes runs into the billions of dollars.
International Dark Sky Association (IDA)
If you are interested in doing something about the wasteful use of energy that spoils our night skies, please contact the IDA.
In the meantime we must cope with light pollution as best as we can.
Brighter Stars
The star that we will suggest to you for your commemorative star will be one of the brighter stars in the sky and will depend on where you will be looking for your star. By taking this approach we will ensure that you have a good chance of actually being able to locate and see your commemorative star.
If you live in a rural area and this is where you will look for your commemorative star or if you’ll do this at another location with darks skies, this information will help us make a suitable selection.
Likewise, there are many double stars that are lovely to see but will require you to use ordinary binoculars or a small telescope to do so. Your input about this consideration goes into how we make a suitable recommendation for your commemorative star.
